SICK

Frank Kreyssig on Mini D_DUB wededit from Double Dub Clothing on Vimeo.
Big guys riding little kids' bikes is how BMX can be explained to people who do not have a clue what BMX riding is all about. That applies even more when big guys are riding bikes with 16 inch wheels. Stephen Nisbett of Double Dub Bike filmed and edited this video of Frank Kreyssig riding a Blend 16 at the local park. And yes, he is doing some gnarly tricks on that bike.

POLO TOURNEY 1/18/09

january 18 we'll be hosting a michigan only polo tournament. all the information you need is included in the flyer below. matt will provide extra mallets for those without. but, don't you think it's about time you made your own? matt just ordered some nice ABS pipe which is perfect for mallet heads. i think he's charging $5 for a section. e mail him if you need more info.

if you haven't checked out polo, now's your chance. practice, and you might get a chance at winning this!

that there's the south east michigan polo cup. beauty. the winners get to hold onto the cup until the next tourney. made exclusively out of bike parts (with the exception of the dog bowl). drink beer out of it, eat chili out of it, it's yours to do whatever you want with. so, until january 18th the cup is being kept in a secure storage facility under 24/7 high security watch. who was up for such a task? big ass jones of course!

CRANKSGIVING

ohhh man. cranksgiving time again! this is by far one of my favorite races. not only is a blast to participate, it's for a good cause. so if you ever needed a good reason for jumping that light, on nov. 23 you'll have one. the look on peoples faces when a posse of helmet wearing cyclists enter a store is priceless. the biggest hold up is lines. but, if you tell people you're participating in an event to feed the needy, i bet they'll give you cuts. so looking forward to this, hope to see everyone there. thanks andy!

i saw this a while ago. it's not so much the crash that i enjoy. or the fact that he's screaming before, during, and after the crash. my favorite part is the filmers reaction.

DETROIT CRUSHIN

andrew has managed to put together a pretty fun weekend. do one day or both. good times, good times.

THANK YOU

thanks to all the sponsors and everyone who came out. we had 43 riders this year. the top of sunset was also brought back this year as a checkpoint. if you're not familiar with sunset, the fact that most people walked their bikes up should give you an idea of the grade. most riders headed there first. which meant a mass group of riders. pretty cool to see so many blinkys going through the intersection at once. apparently some motorists thought so as well. there was a two car accident just past the intersection. fortunately, no one was hurt. there was also a tangle up at one of the checkpoints between two riders rushing off to the next checkpoint. still, no injuries. the only injury happened right at the finish line. as we stood outside the eight ball waiting for riders to come in, we saw a group approaching. at the same time, a jogger was about to emerge from the corner of the building. as he came out one of the guys hit him. jogger fell back, and rider face planted. another guy riding behind crashed trying to avoid the accident. there was a short panic as we tried to make sure everyone was okay. mr. face plant(sorry don't know your name) took a second to get up. but once he did, it was apparent that no major injuries had been sustained. sore shoulder and bloody lip. all in all everything went really well. photos will be posted tonight. here's your top ten.

FINAL PLANNING STAGES

so just like every other race i do, i'm waiting till the last minute to figure everything out. so far i have a start and a finish. good enough, right? this year should be pretty fun. the format is going to be different then previous years, so don't worry about having to change a flat in the dark with broken tire levers. this year will have more of a scavenger hunt feel. each checkpoint will represent a letter. once you've visited all the checkpoints, you'll have to unscramble the letters to find your finish line. the letters will be hidden at each checkpoint, that's where the scavenging aspect comes in. it will be up to each rider to find the letter at the designated checkpoints. everyone will have to visit all the checkpoints. so, even if you figure out the finish halfway through, you still have to visit all checkpoints. as always, this is all about having fun. we do have some pretty cool prizes from our sponsors, so top finishers will be rewarded. i'll also have some booby prizes for fun categories. like, first quitter, best costume, DFL, and so on. i'm looking forward to seeing everyone. if you RSVP, i'll give you a hint as to what the checkpoints will be. not exact locations, just a hint.

NEW SPONSOR

kevin from traitor cycles will be sending us a traitor cycles care package. i'm sure a lot of people have seen the pbr bike. get 'em while they're hot. only 75 were made and it's first come first serve. check traitorcycles.com for more info on all the great stuff kevin and kyle are doing. i think it's great that the smaller companies are always willing to support what we do. it keeps it on a personal level when these companies come from the same background as most of us, and love the same things as we do. this is why it's so important to support those that support us. thanks again to traitor cycles.

checkpoints

so, i'm gonna' recycle some checkpoints. shouldn't be an issue since this one's gonna' be a little more random. so here goes.
B-broadway bridge
I-west park
N-observatory
G-ann arbor cyclery
O-washtenaw dairy
this should keep the course pretty tight. keep in mind that unless you're really lucky you'll end up doing each checkpoint a few times.
this is roughly how the format will go. everyone starts at the diag. from there you can go to any checkpoint you choose. you're free to do the course in any order you like. once you get to a checkpoint, a number will be drawn for that letter. this is done individually for each person, so first come first serve. your bingo card will then be stamped. move on to the next letter and so on, until you get a bingo. chances are you'll need to visit your last needed letter several times, unless you're very lucky. in that case you'll have to tag back. which means, you'll have to go to the finish line(cafe ambrosia) and get a stamp before going back to your last checkpoint. you can do this as many times as needed until your number is drawn, but you must tag back before attempting another re draw. once you have a bingo, haul ass to the finish line and see how you did.
as with regular bingo, the more cards you have the better your odds. cards will be $5 a piece. there will be an opportunity to win cards before the race. can you say FOOT DOWN?!?!?!?!

come and get it. thanks to all the sponsors who have sent out product. even with all that stuff, there's still more to come. the prize list keeps growing. pake frame and fork, cogs, chain tensioners, bar ends, merino wool jerseys, top tube pads, baggy shorts with chamois, tons of t shirts. should be able to do prizes for top ten positions. and first place girl is getting hooked up. come get your stuff!

Monday, July 14, 2008

team ann arbor went to detroit the other night for the detroit crushin event. thanks andrew for hosting such a fun event! team a2 kinda' fell apart. with the exception of noodle. we were all suprised at how well he did in the sprints. in the end, only loosing by half a wheel length. late night, but lots of fun.
my favorite part about riding detroit late night is the traffic. or lack there of. fun night in detroit.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

so, aaron told me about this race in detroit. don't know much about it, other then the obvious. being that it's events, rather then a big race, should make it pretty fun. we've got a couple cars heading over saturday night. drop me a line if you're interested in hitching a ride.
then there's the ypsi race. i believe thomas and luke are the driving forces behind it. 'bout time someone did an ypsi race. i was looking forward to this one, till i saw it was scheduled for the middle of my work day. i'll have to see what i can do about that.
couple of cool races worth checking out.

race results

so i don't remember exactly how many people showed up. it was cold, suprise, suprise. but i think everyone had a good time. top three are as follows.
1.greg battista
2.chris tallman
3.matt duthie
after that i lost track. unfortunately, the guy who actually finished first, missed a checkpoint. a very easy one at that. i don't remember your name, so if you see this, drop a line. thanks to everyone who came out. the included pic is not of the winner. but i'll be damned if he doesn't look like a champ!

Monday, February 4, 2008

so here's the next race. as many of you i'm sure already know, sheldon brown passed away today. in his honor, we will be accepting donations, and contributing to a local bike advocacy group. we will do so anonymously, this will help us to preserve what jimmyrigged does. we are not affiliated with any shops or groups. we just like bikes, as does most everyone else who shows up to these events. that being said, i hope to see a few of you out there. we'll be there rain sleet, or snow. let's hope for one of those 50 degree february days on the 16th. there will be modest prizes. questions, comments, concerns, volunteers, you know what to do.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

so, yesterday was my birthday, and i got the best cake ever! just wanted to share. oh, by the way, SWEETHEART ALLEYCAT. stay posted for details.

Monday, January 14, 2008

so i had to say goodbye to the cup. luke, igor, matt, andy, and nick took the cup home. they will get to hold on to the cup until the next tourney. overall it was a good day. we started out playing three on three. after everyone had played, and everyone had lost once, there was a five on five match. shortly before that it started drizzling. this made for a very slippery surface which created some spectacular crashes. most notabely, lukes 360 tailwhip spin goal. everyone had a good time, and enough people showed up to play. which was good considering the weather forecast. looking forward to some warm weather playing. pic courtesy of thomas kula.

bike polo

so, with the winters here being what they are, there haven't been many events. matt agreed to bring out his mallets and run polo. the usual suspects will be there. but, if you haven't checked polo out yet, it can be a very interesting spectator sport. come out to seee who takes home the polo cup. winning team gets to hold onto the cup until the next tournament. see you there.

winter fun

so i planned on taking some great pictures. i thought it'd be cool to document my commute. and what happens? the battery dies. of course. well i rode the ss mtb. i don't have a decent set of snow tires on my cross bike. i definitely subscribe to the theory that you need a bike set up for every type of preceivable riding condition. just one won't do. so in comes my bike s.u.v. bicycle utility vehicle? b.u.v. while riding in these conditions is challenging, it is quite fun. the snow didn't bother me as much as the ice. only crashed once on the way home. which i consider pretty damn good. it was more of a soft roll then a fall though. here are some pics from early on in my commute.

happy new year!

so, my resolution is to update this site more frequently. i figure the blog is a good start. we got about six inches of snow last night and i can't wait to ride tomorrow. the thing i love about riding in these conditions is that it's something only those who do can understand. i have definitely been seeing more and more people riding through the winter, which is great. i'm all for it. riding keeps me young, and keeps my life in perspective. keep it simple, and be safe. pics tomorrow.
