nightmare before cxmas

don't know if you guys are hip to this event or not. saturday vets park is gonna' host the tailwind series cross races. but after! that' when the party starts. two wheel is hosting the nightmare before cxmas. this sounds like a good time and a really good way to get you moneys worth on your john wayne gacy killer clown costume.

all the money is going to local charities, so, it's for a good cause. at least you'll be able to get right with god for one day.

between this event and night of the living tread, a good time is sure to be had by all. double whammy!

NOTL4

so it's that time of year again. night of the living tread is upon us again. this years theme should provide plenty of entertainment for those at the checkpoints. anyone remember the 7/7/7 race? i really slacked off on getting sponsors this year so i ponied up and got some prizes on my own. there is an origin 8 frame set, track wheelset, origin 8 cranks, mks pedals. some random hats and t shirts as well. one fixed will be shipping some swag our way as well. thanks vic! the diag has proven to be such a good central meeting spot that we will be meeting there rather then wheeler park. as always, looking for volunteers to run checkpoints. gonna' be rad! see you there.

nike?

Nike .x. Bike Polo (RnR editing) from Rock'n'Rollin Fixie Riders on Vimeo.

nike seems to infiltrate everything! not sure how i feel 'bout that. good on one level bad on the other. i guess once nike moves on to aggro ripsticking, the same people playing polo now, will still be playing. anyone remember nike's first attempt at skate shoes in the 90's? anyone remember the choad? yes, choad. nike is evil.

memorial ride pics

so the ride last night was pretty intense. about 150-200 people showed up to memorialize tim pincikowski. we had a police escort from the parking lot of pioneer high school. as we left we "dominated the lane" as instructed by ann arbor police, and were then handed over to pittsfield police. as we rode the short ride to the sight of the accident, traffic stopped. i could only imagine what passing motorists thought. "honey, what's with all the bike riders?" which was exactly the point. it would be impossible to ignore us, therefore raising awareness for what happened to tim. the ride became rather real when we arrived at the accident site. as we approached, there was tim's family. wife, 4 year old daughter, brother, sister, mom, and a few others. they were all understandably emotional, which reminded us all why we came out. so, pray for tim's family through these difficult times, and be safe out there.
thanks for the pics andy.

poker run checkpoints

northside presbyterian church- 1679 broadway st.

bandamer park dirt jumps- lake shore dr. off of main st.

caribou coffee- 1423 e stadium

burns park sledding hill- 1414 wells st. in park east of school

fletcher parking structure- thunderdome. lowest level of structure where polo is played in the winter months.

wurster park- madison to the north, davis to the south, 3rd to the east, and 5th to the west.

hidden commuter lot- washington to the north, liberty to the south, 3rd to the east, murray ave to the west.

finish at adams house 917 brown, near the stadium.

start at the diag. all checkpoints must be visited before a discard. once all checkpoints have been visited, go to the finish. if you chose to discard, you'll have to return to the corresponding checkpoint. discard as many times as you wish, as long as it's done within a 2 hour time limit. after that, checkpoints will not be manned. points awarded for best hand and time.

map

there is a long and short course option. long includes all seven checkpoints and the option to discard. short does not include bandamer dirt jumps or broadway hill. long course will receive points for hands and speed. a good hand is worth more then a fast time. short course riders simply draw a card at each checkpoint, best hand wins, no discard. meet in the diag at 8. see you there. feel free to print out your own map and checkpoint list. save a tree.

jens voigt crash

here it is for anyone who missed it. jens voigt went down yesterday in stage 19. there are a lot of people saying that the steer tube snapped. but i think it's clear what happened. looks like he hit an uneven patch of pavement and lost it. watch his glasses shatter as he hits the pavement. nasty crash. hopefully he heals up soon, but for now, jens is outta' the tour.

pedal poker run

so here it is. i desperately need volunteers to make this one happen. so, if you're willing to run a checkpoint, let me know. riders will run around to checkpoints around town. each checkpoint will be visited at least once. where, you'll get a card. once you have visited each one you can go to the finish. at the finish, if you want to re draw, you can leave a card and return to a previous checkpoint. you can do this as many times as you want within the allowed amount of time until you get a hand you're satisfied with.

HELLS YA

what a blast. dennis, carl, and erin came down from t.c. monday afternoon. i can't even begin to tell you how much these guys have put into making this happen. not only all the equipment. but, the van rental, gas, driving bak home the same night. shit! we didn't get done until close to two in the morning. just want to say thanks to them for everything they've done. while there is an entry fee ($5) donations are always accepted. these guys are losing money doing this. which just goes to show how much they love it. i'm sure every little bit they can scrape together would make a big difference.
so, i got to the blind pig at the 8pm load in time. dennis and crew were already there and getting ready to set up. everything went pretty smooth with the exception of a couple small glitches. once the doors opened people started lining up to register. now, what was great was that pretty much everyone who showed up was there to race. but as people got eliminated out of their heats, the crowd started to thin out. the crowd was awesome! high energy till the end. i think a common misconception when i started promoting this was you had to race to be a part of this. anyone was who was there will tell you, being a spectator was just as fun. i think it would be great to have more people cheering everyone on next time.

homeless dave was there reporting for the ann arbor chronicle and got some great pics.
annarborchronicle.com
so we'll be back at it on the 23rd. bring a friend, sister, brother, mother. the more the merrier. you do not have to race to have a good time at the hell yes sprints. dennis has the results posted on the hell yes blog. big matt 2nd place? hmmmmm...

more pics
thanks spencer olinek for the pics.
so, i'll see everyone on the 23rd!

HELL YES SPRINTS

last night was awesome! still don't know what the count was, but a pretty good turnout. not bad for a monday night. dennis, carl, and erin drove home last night directly after the races. i know i wouldn't have been able to pull that off. pics coming soon. i'm going back to bed now. pace yourself kiddies.

A2 POLO IN ANN ARBOR CHRONICLE

Bicycle Polo Played Under Polar Conditions
Ionian team takes top honors in Michigan-wide tournament
BY DAVE ASKINSJANUARY 19, 2009

Bike, ball, and mallet.
On Sunday afternoon, eight 3-person teams from Traverse City, Ionia, East Lansing, and Ann Arbor descended on the “Thunderdome,” to compete for top honors in a double-elimination bicycle polo tournament. The Thunderdome is a parking structure near downtown Ann Arbor, which generally sits empty on Sundays. And on this last Sunday, it was empty and cold. The Chronicle could not disagree with the assessment of one polo player: “It’s like a meat locker in here!”

Adam Say, who works as a mechanic at Ann Arbor Cyclery on Packard Street, expressed some confidence before play started that his team would prevail – there was a spot on a shelf at the bike shop with a label on it to hold the trophy. But at the end of the day, the trophy - constructed from spoke protectors, wheel hubs, and a dog bowl – went back to Dan’s Bike Shop in Ionia, Michigan, with the team who finished the tournament undefeated: Seth Higbee, Gary Ferguson, and Tim Heyboer. full story
